Irish Camp adventure with Generation Ireland

Life changing Irish Camp adventure with Generation Ireland

For over a decade The Irish Education Academy has been in the business of international exchanges and cultural programs for children and teenagers from all over the world.

Our innovative company, based in the West of Ireland, has welcomed thousands of children to the Emerald Isle and while a large part of what we do is concerned with the development of language skills, it is by no means the most important aspect of our work.  We strive to connect, enrich and empower young people from all over the world through safe and progressive camps that encourage friendship, positive change, personal growth and a greater understanding of other people and cultures.

This year we are embarking on an exciting International Program with the US, through our Generation Ireland Summer Camp, which aims to immerse American teenagers, between the ages of 13 and 16 years, in Ireland's rich culture, language, literature, song, dance, history & folklore.

The 14 day Irish Cultural Enrichment & Activity Camp will be run from the award winning An Óige residential lodge, based at the foot of the majestic Mount Errigal, in Donegal, Ireland - one of the 'coolest places' to visit according to the National Geographic.  And it is easy to understand why.  Once you have been to Donegal it will forever hold a place in your heart.  It is not just the raw beauty of the place and the proud imposing landscape, that impacts on you.  It's something deeper.  It's the connection you feel when you have been there – connection to the people, to the past, to the language and to the warmth that makes it feel like home no matter where you come from.  It will be a place where your teens will flourish and gain a deeper understanding of themselves, of other cultures and of their place in the world.

Our highly skilled team will be with them every step of the way - from the US to Ireland and back home again.  All of our staff are trained in Child Protection, Equality and Inter-culturalism and they hold qualifications in CPR and First Aid.  But above all, they have a proven track record in working with children as volunteers, mentors, tutors and teachers.  From the moment your teen is handed over to us, you can sleep easy knowing they will be looked after like one of our own.
The camp will give the students an overall understanding of Ireland's history and the strong connection between Ireland and the US.  As well as learning the basics of the Irish language, the teens will also find themselves surfing, coasteering, orienteering, turf sculpting, wood turning, celtic drawing, Irish dancing, cooking and island hopping.  They will visit the Titanic in Belfast, Slieve League (Europe's highest sea cliffs), the Giant's Causeway, the Carrick-a-Rede rope bridge and the powerful murals of Derry City.

They will hear the language and music of Enya and Altan and dance to the tune of the tin whistle and fiddle at the many Céilí's they will attend.  They will be immersed in the life of the village of Dunlevy and will learn about our culture from a local perspective.  While they are here, they will be looked upon as 'one of us' and when they return to our shores again, as they no doubt will, they will be remembered for having been just that – 'one of us'.

Generation Ireland has been designed and developed by Sinéad Muldoon (CEO) and her team at The Irish Education Academy.  Sinéad lives with her husband and four children in County Galway and has been working in international education for the past 12 years.  For information contact Sinead at This email address is being protected from spambots.
